Makers | Ray : Sampling O Sacoche
Earlier this year, Ian, Oli and I visited Ray at his workshop in Nottingham ( in the UK ) during the sampling process of O Sacoche.
Ray makes all O Totes and O Sacoches from start to finish himself, which is why we sell them in batches.
We chatted to Ray about his working life spent making clothes and bags. After learning the art of pattern cutting and sewing at college, Ray went on to open a small factory, close to where we now live in Beeston, making trousers. The factory is no longer there but with his many years of experience, Ray continues to make and enjoy the repetition involved in getting something just right.
It wasn't long before Ian, Oli and Ray steered the conversation to their shared passion for running. Ray swims most mornings before work and was once a keen runner, entering races with friends every other week.
"running is a good release... as is swimming, you go into your own little zone. And it's rewarding, when you've done you feel a million dollars. In the mornings you get up and you don't really want to go but when you've done you feel pretty good."
Think there's something we can all take from that.
Huge thanks to Ray for letting us take these photos of him working, particularly as he insists that he prefers to stay under the radar. Also, for continuing to make great bags and put a smile on our faces every time we see him. He's one of the good guys.
